There are many benefits to using green energy sources. Green energy is non-polluting and environmentally friendly. We have now become forced to use alternative sources of energy due to problems with the use of fossil fuels. Using renewable energy sources help our environment and prevent global warming. They also reduce toxic and chemical waste and general fuel storage. These types of green energy sources include solar, water and wind energy. Others include biomass, hydro power and waste materials which are considered non-emission sources because they are safe for the environment.

Different power generating plants cause combustion in the air and are contributing factors to the increase of global warming. If people do not start taking the initiative to address this common problem, it can not only affect today’s generation, but will also affect future generations as well.

Solar energy is energy captured from the sun. The sun’s energy can be converted into electrical energy by the use of solar panels containing photovoltaic cells. Solar energy can also be used to heat hot water in the kitchen, laundry and bathroom.

Electricity plays a big part in people’s homes. It is required to run the television, refrigerator, stove, washing machine and other appliances. The problem with this is that electricity is getting very expensive lately and can make your budget suffer significantly. Using solar energy can help save you loads of money each month on electricity costs.

Wind energy can be used to perform mechanical tasks such as running windmills. Windmills can be used to pump water and supplement solar panels for the configuration of alternative power. Similar to solar energy, there are no pollutants when using wind energy. If planning on using wind energy, its best to live in a windy location.

Water can be used for generating electricity in your home. If you live somewhere where you have access to a steady stream of water, you can use this water to rotate a turbine which generates electricity.

Green energy is not only good for the environment, it can also help you save a bundle on electrical and heating bills as well. The government is now offering incentives to people who take the initiative to install energy efficient products. This adds even more money into your pockets.

So you’ve got a long-term goal for the direction of your company, and have invested in time tracking software and everything else you need to make business run smoothly, but have you given any thought to also making your office greener? Recent studies show that adopting green technology and conserving resources can actually cut your energy usage as much as 80%. Businesses are now turning green to save on costs and to help our environment. It does not matter what type of business it is, going green and becoming an environmentally friendly business is very possible. Below are some ways that your business can go green.

Accurately measure your current energy use so that you can develop a plan to cut it back and save on resources. Once you come up with a plan, it is important that you monitor them on a regular basis.

Consider adding telecommuting positions within your company. This is not by hiring new staff for these positions, but converting some of your existing employees into a telecommute position. This will reduce office energy consumption, cut back on paper use, cut back on fuel consumption and carbon emissions from their cars.

Take some responsibilities online such as sharing and editing documents. SharePoint is a good program for this. This will reduce your paper consumption, reduce printer energy and lower ink usage.

Use Laptops before desktops if at all possible. This saves a lot of energy because they use less and it eliminates the need for add on monitors.

Replace old energy wasting equipment with upgraded equipment which will lower energy usage and costs because they run more efficiently and require less power.

Utilize power strips and be sure to turn them all off each night before leaving. Each turned off power strip will save your business over $150 a year in energy costs.

Make sure that all lights, machines and equipment that is not being used are turned off each night before leaving. This will save on energy usage and costs. Weekends and nights are especially important. You probably did not realize this, but most equipment remains on idle for almost 90 percent of its life.

It is every business owners responsibility to do their part in conserving energy and doing the small things that will help out our environment. There are many other ways to go green with your business and doing a little research will go a long way.

In the past few years people have become more concerned about clean energy and eco-friendly practices. This change has led to the demand of jobs that are concerned with the environmental sectors. An example of this would be the green jobs created in the automotive industry as the race for the best hybrid car is well underway. As more and more wind, solar and other sources of alternative energy projects are being set up; there is a growing need for workers in these fields.

Personnel for installation of solar power projects and in the home sector are in great demand. The job in this sector pays well. Opportunities are available in places wherever the sun shines. There are also opportunities in the field of energy efficient construction as more buildings and companies are using this method to cut down their energy requirement and greenhouse emissions.

Today wind is slowly growing into the most sought after alternative energy source. As a result millions of trained personnels would be required to fill up the jobs in the wind turbine fabrication sector. Wind power also requires the installation of the wind turbines and their maintenance. These turbines are mostly installed in the wind farms and thus have created job opportunities for professionals and technicians who are proficient in this subject. Maintenance of the turbines is also required after their installation, as they need to be ocassionally repaired and adjusted.

There is also requirement for expert management personnels in the field of green energy projects as these projects cannot be managed by the conventionally trained management staff. This is because the wind and solar implementation of the projects require workers with specialized knowledge in this particular field.

As there is great concern all over the world about the green effect especially on the environmental effects of the industries and buildings, most countries have made regulations that have to be followed by the industries. Therefore, companies require good legal advice. This requirement has led to the demand of environmental lawyers, who have special knowledge of environmental rules and regulations.

The information technology field also offers a large number of green energy jobs. IT specialists who have knowledge of energy efficient work practice are very useful to big industries and organizations that want to cut down their carbon footprints.

Energy is the basic necessity for any developmental activity that needs to succeed. What we humans have become today and what we plan to do in the future, everything depends on a viable source of energy. And the bad thing is that today the world is already in an energy crisis and this problem is becoming more serious with each passing day. It is all because our primary source of energy is centered on fossil fuels and all our activities revolve around it. Again, the fuel and energy crisis have led to increases in the cost of other basic necessities.

It is not that we do not have a solution to the root cause of this problem. We do have alternative means of energy, but due to politics and lack of mass exposure, the benefits are not reaching the common mass.

Green energy can give us all the required energy for all round development activities. When we say green energy it takes into account all renewable sources of energy like wind, marine, bio energy, solar and so many others. And, it is not that we do not have the expertise to harness these natural sources of renewable energy. We have the entire required infrastructure to make things sustainable with them. What is required is an upfront attitude to use these resources.

Green energy means have financial benefits as well (if you want to check out some great statistics for how much a business can saving by becoming energy consiencous, look at what Enigin has to offer). Making use of these resources will help you to get a strong foothold now itself when the energy crisis has just started. Later these things will become more costly because of the increasing demands. Rising fuel cost is the proof of what is happening and what will happen at a later date.

In fact a lot of people have already adopted green energy and are getting returns from it. Even industries have resorted to these sources to cut down on costs after the recent worldwide economic slowdown. Many people have even resorted to solar lighting to light up their houses, adding to the list of advantages. So, we all should take a stronger stance towards adopting green energy, or else mankind will be left scratching its head.

The modern-day environmental disasters are unprecedented in mankind’s history because the more people need in these growing industry and increased demand, the more is the quality of resources being obtained. Expanding massively, the oil demand led to highly increased oil extraction thus endangering the eco systems in variety of places around the globe. Environmentalists are currently quite worried about a recent occasion of oil spill that may lead to unrecovarable damages leading to the extinction of thousands of inhabitants of the territories in the Mexican Gulf.

By the 20th of April this year, British Petroleum had been extracting oil from the Mexican territories, 84 kilometers south-east from the Mexican shore. An unfortunate accident ends up with the oil well spilling oil with the amount of almost 5000 barrels a day in the waters of the Gulf, causing an unprecedented environmental catastrophe for both people inhabiting the islands and the shore and the wildlife in the area. Not to mention throwing the market, oil and red diesel suppliers, and environmentalists into a tizzy. Even by making efforts to quickly close the case and find a solution to the oil crisis, BP unsuccessfully sent robots to close the well -the amount of oil being spilled in the waters increases. Such a sceinario may harm these terrotories for centuries ( just an example reveals that Alaska is still healing from an oil spill in 1989) and endanger both Mexico and the USA as dominating states in the area. The costs that are now estimated to be over $450m are increasing thus influencing the oil market and creating a potential oil crisis in the future. This being mentioned apart from the environmental situation seems to be a bothering point since the signs from the world economic crisis have not vanished yet and a certain dramaical increase in the oil price may negatively influence the lifestyle of many households.

To summerize the issue, it is of high importance to note such a environmental disaster has never been encountered in the US history. People have undobtedly become eager to extract more and more from the earth’s resources thus endangering not only the wildlife and the founa of the terriroties harmed, but risking the well being of millions of households. The response to these threats should be a “green”one -people should gradually turn to recovarable and non-polluting means of energy and be cautious because the planet is healing more than slowly and the damages it may suffer might lead to a global climate disaster.

As an Australian living in England, the fact that one can hire or buy a car or van and pop over to Europe on the Ferry is mind boggling!

That so many countries are so close up here in the Northern Hemisphere makes road tripping a whole different kettle of fish!

My last two summers have been spent travelling around Europe with my life and my bed all neatly packed up in a van.

A brilliant loop of Europe in the summer starts with a quick trip down the western coast of France stopping wherever takes your fancy- we chose La Rochelle and did not regret it (although we couldn’t help but spend a couple of nights in one of the paris hostels)! From there you can head to Pamplona in Spain to enjoy the spectacle that is the running of the bulls. After a manic time there, head down into Portugal, particularly Lagos for some sun and relaxing with a hint of hedonism! From the southern tip of Portugal it is a very short drive and then boat trip to Morocco, so drop off your trusty vehicle and treat yourself to a night or two of luxury in a hotel in Morocco.

Back into Europe and off up to Madrid and Barcelona for a spot of Spanish culture. From this point on the daily drives become shorter stints, but remember if you have more time stop more places and save yourself big days of driving. There are some of us though who love nothing more than a good long drive through ever changing scenery with some good tunes on the stereo.

Next is the French Riviera, lovely to see but definitely a shorter part of your journey unless you have serious cash reserves.

From here you can either head straight back up through France and home to work, but if you have the time, the cash and the commitment I suggest you do as we did and carry on!

The itinerary is as follows but it is by no means set in stone! Italy (Cinque Terre, Pisa, Rome, Naples, Amalfi Coast, Milan, Florence and Venice, then leave the van in Bari and hit the Greek Islands or head straight over to Croatia with your trusty van. Next stop Slovenia particularly Lake Bled, and on to Austria. From here you can hit the three main cities of Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest in a ridiculously short time. Head up from Budapest to Poland making sure not to miss Krakow (a brilliant often underrated city) on the way to Warsaw. From there hit Berlin, nip into the Czech Republic for Prague and down to Munich for the world famous Oktoberfest in September.

This is all possible in the three months between end of June and end of September and makes for a brilliant life experience to remember forever.

Rural India is well known to be heavily dependent on biomass based systems for its daily sustenance. Cooking is one single activity that accounts for about ninety percent of the total domestic energy demand or usage.

There is also the regional factor that plays an important role in this type of work that consumes more natural resource for energy generation. States and places which are in the upper reaches of the country experience severe temperature drops during the winter season and is yet not cold during rest of the year. Such places also consume the natural resource for generation of heat to keep the cold off.

Projects involving some villages of the northern reaches of India were taken up for implementing energy saving as well as using alternate source of energy. The demand on firewood in these regions was so high that deforestation was taking at rapid rate. Both for cooking and for generating heat, trees were felled. The secondary effect that was noticed in these areas was the pollution that the burnt firewood produced inside the rooms.

The project therefore was aimed at providing energy intervention to integrate with development of these areas.

It was found that the locales used a three-pot mud cook stove for their living. The stoves had very low thermal efficiency being made of mud and stone and also with no chimney the pollution spread was also equally abundant. Wood was being used in these places for energy generation.

The solution for addressing both these issues was found in the development of a modified stove which had two metal water tanks embedded inside the firebox. The tanks are connected to an overhead water tank. The tanks get heated while cooking is being carried out and this hot water is thereafter is available for use. It was found that not only cooking time improved but also there was a great reduction in firewood required for both the task.

Now, such a process is being followed mainly in the rural areas. However, if this type of a system is widely adopted, for example by people in urban areas too, then it can help in containing pollution even more.

For more great stories on how companies around the world are reducting their energy consumption, visit the blog sites of Enigin PLC to see from a companies point of view.

I am Australian. Ask me about snakes and that and I got it covered. Want to know about sharks and I might be able to have a good guess, just because I have a few mates who have seen them in the wild in close quarters–But ask me about London and I draw a big fat blank; you may as well ask me about warts treatment (I don’t think I have one wart on my whole body, but despite the sun being big in Australia I do get sun-burnt…). So on the way to the city yesterday I asked a friend on the tube (by that I mean a mate I go to work with, not a random Londoner, no way!) what the deal was, since I am so new to London and need a bit of educating, to say the least. He said it was like this:

“Londoners have to fight to get to work every day. Fight to catch the tube, fight to get anywhere. And that isn’t even anything compared to the weekend! On the weekend it’s a nightmare. Every tourist in the world seems to descend on The Big Smoke and get in the way of all the people who live there. There is no escape. On the tubes the tourists stand on the left hand side and stop people from getting through, and it drives us crazy!”

Now I was starting to get the picture. Have I made the right decision to move to London from the Australian outback? Only time will tell–
